Venerable Sampasadana joins the Armadale Meditation Group on-line live. Armadale Meditation Group (AMG) is designed to teach you about meditation. The classes generally begin with chanting the Metta Sutta, then receiving meditation instructions and meditating together, followed by asking questions and finally if time remains listening to a Dhamma talk. However, the layout can vary. Due to social distancing regulations, these weekly Tuesday night teachings are happening via Zoom from Bodhinyana Monastery.

Venerable Sampa first visited the Armadale Meditation Group a year or so ago. On that occasion he used the analogy of meditation and cooking. This time he asks us to use a visual approach and a garden. Our troubles are like weeds and good feelings and thoughts, like flowers. Venerable encouraged us to use our imaginations and make the garden a beautiful place, a comfortable place, a quiet and relaxing place.
Venerable then lead the group in a slightly longer than thirty minute meditation. Venerable begins by spending ten minutes getting comfortable in body and mind. This meditation is well suited to both experienced and new meditators alike.
After meditation Venerable opened to questions before continuing his talk.

Though not his first teaching assignment, tonight was Venerable Sampa’s first visit as a teacher to The Armadale Meditation Group and a most welcome one. Venerable opened the evening by comparing meditation to cooking. Sometimes the recipe works, sometimes it’s ok and sometimes it’s not what we were expecting at all. So it is with meditation. Sometimes it’s fabulous and sometimes it just doesn’t work. When it doesn’t work, we need to look at what is stopping us. The disruptive thoughts, the nagging feelings. We need to examine them and at least attempt to resolve them. This needs to be done gently, with kindness and compassion. We can’t just push them aside, they will keep coming back.
Venerable then lead the group in a slightly longer than usual meditation with the first focus being relaxed and comfortable. He then moved the focus to breathing. An easy meditation well suited to beginners and experienced meditators alike.
After the meditation Venerable opened to Q&A.
